Following the media coverage of the High Court of Gujarat’s proceedings in one of the petitions regarding the issuance of a domicile certificate to a Canadian citizen, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court of India by the NGO, namely, Gift of Life Adventure (GOLA) Foundation.
This PIL came for hearing on 5th December, 2022 before the Honourable Chief Justice, D.Y. Chandrachud.
Looking to the gravity and seriousness of the matter raised by the petitioner in the PIL, the Honourable Supreme Court directed the Ministry of Health, Government of India, to consider this PIL as a Representation and bring uniformity in the Organ Transplant Act & Rules across India, including the requirement for the Domicile Certificate by various states in India.
Our mission is to promote a clear, consistent, and unambiguous implementation of The Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994 and the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Rules, 2014 in every hospital across India. We aim to ensure that every patient is able to access organ transplantation without facing any legal complexities or inconsistencies.
